Xbox 360 is a really nice console and is really cheap for its quality.1080p gaming, halo series and good looks but of course it comes with is cons. Many people encountered the red ring of death. 1. Keep it away from dust.
I had my xbox on my entertainment console, bottom shelf. The dust from my TV's fan came directly into my Xbox's fan. Also keep it off the carpet because all the dust from the carpet goes in your xbox 360.
2.Make sure it has good airflow.
The fan is on top so do not put anything that blocks it for example CD covers, remote controls, etc.. Also keep the back at least 1 foot away from any thing that might be at the back.
3.Give it a break.
Do not play your Xbox more then 1 1/2 hours constantly. Give it a break and then continue playing afterwards. If you hear the fans, it means its time to turn it off. Even if you don't hear the fans give it a rest, because it might be to late when you start hearing the fans.
4.Clean it.
Every once in a while, clean all the vents and even the cover. The dust builds up and reaches the fan, reducing the performance as well as the life.
